“Wild Hogs” -
John Travolta, Tim Allen, William Macy, Martin Lawrence, Ray Liotta, Marisa Tomei

5 Stars

I was howling at this one. What an incredible cast of misfits from Travolta, the biggest “poser” of them all, now broke and soon to be divorced to Lawrence a truly whipped husband, Macy the shy nerd of the bunch, and then Allen the most professional as a dentist but still in midlife crisis. Tomei is a breath of fresh air and captivating when paired with bumbling Macy for romance. Liotta is his nasty best as the “real” biker dude head of the gang that has intimidated an entire town for way too long until the Wild Hogs, our heroes, ride in and unwittingly unravel all of it. It is hilarious from burning down their tents first night out and then skinny dipping only to be discovered by a family who thinks it is a gay gathering, to the showdown in the town. Don’t miss this one, you’ll laugh till it hurts!

Awesome tapas at tiny prices! Perfect bar food or sharing with friends, the portions are deliciously petite, no take home bags here. Dive in to lobster taco with peppers and Oaxaca cheese or blue cornmanl crusted fried green tomatoes with manchego cheese, plenty of options in salads and veggies for those non meat eater types. Crowded, noisy and colorful, you may not linger, you will leave satisfied. Great place to meet and then move on after a drink and a bite.

11 July 2007 - 1:08Ghost Rider

“Ghost Rider” -
Nicolas Cage, Eva Mendes, Sam Elliott, Peter Fonda

3 Stars

I wasn’t going to see this, it seemed way too corny. But what is a gal to do on a 17 hour flight to China! I am a big Cage fan so that part was easy. It was a treat to see Sam Elliott and Peter Fonda back on screen, rare these days. Not your typical satanic fest, actually a bit more fun, campy and hardly spooky at all. I just wish he could get the girl, but get why he can’t! In a nutshell, Cage sells his soul to save his Father when he is a young boy, the trade off is he has to morph into Ghost Rider nightly for the rest of his life, fighting the demons of darkness. Oh admit it, with nothing else to watch, you’d go for it too!

Friendly neighborhood dive conveniently located in Midtown–enjoy a refreshing margarita, chips, and guacamole. Authentic when you include dishes like Molcajete Carmelina prepared on searing hot lava rocks with strips of beef, melted asadero cheese, grilled cactus strips, serrano peppers and tomatillo sauce…or if you want something a little more run of the mill, go for the Enchiladas Verdes with chicken and tomatoes, drizzled with sour cream, rice, and refried black beans. Fresh, fast, and averages $10-$15 per person for an entrée. Atmosphere is borderline Tijuana grunge, but go for it!
