Sahara – Millions

“Sahara” – Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, Penelope Cruz

I loved this, in the best tradition of Harrison Ford and Indiana Jones, and Michael Douglas and Romancing the Stone, this was action adventure with just the right touch of passion and romance, and a healthy dose of comedy a la Zahn. McConaughey is so easy on the eyes, WOW, delicious. Zahn is comic relief and loads of it. Almost stole the movie in places. Cruz is an exotic beauty who seemed a bit out of place, but necessary for the romance. Delroy Lindo is well Delroy Lindo. The story is simple, bad guy is planning to take over the country and likely the world and is careless in a disease escaping his control that could kill the world (oh puhleeze). The good guys come in with their own treasure seeking agenda but conveniently know about the disease and how to stop it. Yahoo to the rescue! Of course it has a happy ending, but it needed that. This is a rousing, feel good, action packed, don’t miss it picture.

This is a great story of imagination and good intentions. Two young boys suddenly find themselves saddled with a bag of money that seemingly came out of the sky (in reality tossed from a train to be picked up by robbers, and missed.) The youngest believes it is God’s money and should be given away for good and he does so with the most wonderful results. His brother, on the other hand, is into materialism, new bikes, radios and what not. They have both lost their Mum recently and this event serves to allow them each to truly work through that loss, allow their Father a second chance, and come to peace with their Mum’s passing. It is a bitter sweet tale and definitely one to make you think of all the good money can do but so rarely does.
