Regularly sharing Strategy Sessions with Creativepreneurs I have found that the single greatest challenge to your success is your mindset. Success is as much a choice as it is anything else. You can work hard, you can put in long hours, you can be tremendously talented, but if you don’t have the right mindset you won’t get far. There are 5 simple and sure ways to create and maintain Your Prosperity Mindset:
#1 Create a Gratitude Habit
Every day at least once a day, jot down on an index card just 5 things you are grateful for. Now you can certainly write down 25 but often it is tough to come up with even 5! Consider some obvious one’s: a place to live (it doesn’t matter how nice, or if you own it), your health (or a single aspect of it, like good eyesight or hearing), reliable transportation (whether it is your car, the local metro, or a friend), family and friends (and if you don’t have one, I bet you have the other!), a pet (always a blessing). It is all too easy to forget that there are many who are homeless, handicapped, ill, illiterate, hungry, and without even the basics. You have them (and likely a whole lot more.) Get thankful.
#2 Visualize Your New Reality
Okay, so you aren’t too crazy about the reality you are in the middle of and you want to change it. Visualizing is an essential step to getting there. You can go anywhere in your mind, you can be anyone in your mind. And when you take these steps every day, forming a habit, these desires and dreams become part of your essential fabric. This becomes an integral part of the energy you live and breath every day and will bring the help you know what steps to take to forward your dream. This isn’t about idly dreaming, that won’t get you far. This is about active visualizing, even just once a day for 10 minutes, but every day. No skipping, no missing, no haphazard effort. Make this a success habit.
#3 Surround Yourself with Positive People
This may sound obvious but too often we fall into ruts with friends and family that aren’t always healthy. Just because someone else is a whiner, naysayer or complainer doesn’t mean you have to be one. Staying focused on the possible, creating the probable, and continuing to work toward the positive is dependent on surrounding yourself with winners. Being a loser is a choice, it is not a destiny. Anyone can make a new choice, unfortunately many choose not to. Step away from the toxic people in your life. You’ll soon find that since “misery loves company” when you no longer want to be company to misery, misery will leave you alone.
#4 Focus on What You are Getting Done
Too often we forget what we have accomplished and instead harp only on what we didn’t get done. This is ineffective and keeps us trapped in a poverty mindset and failure outlook. At the close of each day, write down the things you accomplished that day and be sure to include tasks as small (or large) as taking the kids to school, doing the laundry, fixing dinner, as well as the business side of writing proposals, following up on leads, booking an event, editing a report and such.
#5 Talk to Yourself With Positivity
Your self talk is the most important discussion you have with anyone all day. Are you being complimentary, supportive and encouraging to yourself? If not, get one of those wide wrist rubber bands with your favorite cause and each time you hear your inner voice berating you, discouraging you, being generally ugly to you, snap that band. I guarantee that at the end of the first day (week for some) you will have a bruised wrist and a shift in your self talk. This is about becoming aware of the language you use with yourself and changing it to the better.
Simply following these 5 steps will each and every day will take you from a mindset of lack, poverty, and limitation to a mindset of abundance, prosperity, and limitless thinking. Small steps lead to big results when done every day faithfully. When you do these only sporadically, you will get sporadic results. Commit for just 30 days and let me know the difference it has made!
