Well, believe it or not, I really enjoyed the long flight to Paris. The seating was spacious and with so many adjustments I had to learn the control panel. The food was actually quite good and a menu with options was offered (it has been a long time since that happened), and the service was excellent. My favorite touch was the ice cream sundaes with Breyers vanilla bean, hot fudge, caramel, nuts and whipped cream. It just takes on an extra special quality when served 10 miles up. Delta is due kudos, their service, quality, and aesthetic are all on the rise.
I did sit next to a pilot on the way home and learned that they truly have made all the concessions and then some that are possible and can’t go any further. Many have had their pay slashed in half and benefits are tenuous at best. It seems that this airline behemoth took years to get so bloated and it is only reasonable to expect it to take time to get back in shape.
