Whether you are limiting yourself, doubting yourself, or just not pushing yourself hard enough, your own thoughts can become the biggest barrier holding you back from greatness. That’s why the Three Gs of Success are so important. Mastering Gratitude, Goals, and Grit, in that order, will help to shift your mindset and push you to become the best creative that you can be
The Gift of Gratitude
As a creative, we have a tendency to look at what is incomplete or not going right instead of focusing on the wins we can celebrate. Gratitude shifts you into a place of thankfulness for the successes you’ve already achieved. It can be hard to focus on gratitude when you are constantly trying to better yourself and your business, but I want you to take a moment out of every day to remind yourself of all of the things that you are proud of. You might do this through a journal of gratitude prompts, a daily check-in on an app, or speaking affirmations to yourself before your morning coffee. Once you get yourself into the habit of looking for the things you are thankful for, you will find that you can shift your thinking toward success in a much more meaningful way.
Grit and Bear It
When you’ve taken stock of the things that surround you with success every day, you can then move on to setting goals for your future success. But don’t feel like those goals have to be small. Look for opportunities to take a quantum leap when setting your goals–these are bite-sized steps packaged into one big stretch that will propel you even further. The right goals will inspire you, pull you forward, and keep you going. But they’ve got to be specific, so that you can actually track and measure your steps toward them. Without specifics to measure, you can’t hold yourself accountable for the work you’ve done to achieve your goals.
Taking those quantum leaps can be difficult, though, and when they become challenging, you are going to need grit to keep yourself going. To me, grit to me is determination that will carry you through any obstacle, any upset, or any space where you hit a wall and need the strength to continue on. Grit gives you that determination, courage, power, and the knowledge necessary to take the steps to save yourself and in some cases to save your business.
