One of the things I’ve noticed is that when I’m in conversation with a female business owner, the questions and challenges that come up are often the same.
“Melissa, I know I need to do video, but I don’t know how to use youtube.”
“Melissa, I’ve got a VA doing my Facebook and Twitter because I have no idea what to put up there.”
“LinkedIn doesn’t seem to be effective for my business, Melissa. I don’t know how to find my clients there.”
Whenever, you face a decision about what to do, whether it is social media related or not, you have the same three choices:
#1 GOOGLE IT
In this day and age, we have the extraordinary good fortune to have at our fingertips the world’s largest repository of knowledge called the internet and Google is the key that unlocks it. If you don’t know something, Google It. You are going to come up with videos that will guide you, blog posts that can help, ebooks with directions, and whole lot more.
#2 HIRE A COACH
But there is a hitch here, because a coach isn’t there to do it for you, they are there to guide you through pitfalls and ensure that the strategy and tools selected are the best fit for you and your business. Your Coach doesn’t replace Google, you still want to empower yourself with the global knowledge base available.
#3 REMAIN IN THE DARK
Don’t laugh, I see way too many female business owners, particularly, make this decision and honestly it frustrates me because it is so unnecessary. This is someone who prefers to whine about what she can’t do than to take action on what she can do. Today, there are no excuses when you have access to the web (and if you are reading this, you do.)
STOP DELEGATING
Now, I’m a big fan of delegation but only once you understand it well enough to delegate it. When you delegate in the blind, you have no idea if the other person actually knows what they are doing or how long it will take (this is where you can and often will be taken for a ride.)
I meet a lot of female business owners who are so eager to jumpstart their marketing that they outsource most pieces to total strangers at low hourly fees (or high, it doesn’t matter) and wonder why their business isn’t growing.
Marketing is about bringing yourself to your clients in a way that is magnetic and irresistible. Until you have a way to outsource your personality, your talent, your sparkle, and your shine, you need to embrace it yourself. (Cloning is an imperfect science still! )
You are at the heart of your business whether you are a coach, a consultant, a designer, a speaker, an author. You are your business. You can absolutely leverage tools and quality services, but your core marketing must come from you. You are the walking, talking, posting personality that your clients are looking for. When you outsource it, your power evaporates and your personality disappears.
Oh and learning the basics (mastery is not required) of the forms of marketing that are best for your business, before you delegate them, will truly empower you and your business. There is nothing more frustrating than having to wait on someone else because you prefer to remain in fear of doing it yourself.
COMMENT TIME! I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU. Share below those pieces of your business that you are in the dark about and how you are going to tackle that to empower yourself and your success.
