What if you had a business coach that genuinely identified with and understood the creative impulse that guides every action and decision in your life? What if that business coach had been there, in the same predicament as yours: struggling between the choice of what was “practical” and what made your heart sing?
Welcome to the Affluent Creative, a place where I’m dishing my tried and true creative business expertise with you. During our time together, you’ll hear my stories of building a business and brand while chasing that elusive work-life balance. It’s less of a balance than a fusion because as a creative, we don’t flip on our creativity at 7am and turn it off at 5pm. It’s running 24/7/365 and it’s who we are, beyond what we do.
I want to share the wisdom I’ve gained from moving from chaos to clarity, fear to focus, and from seeing obstacles to opportunity. My goal is that in listening to my stories and experiences, you will find the inspiration, courage, and motivation to overcome your challenges while knowing that you are never alone in them.
My Story: A Family Matter
I come from a significant line of creatives who each had their own idea of the path that I should take. That’s why it is important for me to know that I’ve created my opportunities based on my merit and talent and not someone’s recommendation. It took time to quiet the other well intentioned voices that I was listening to and tune into my own inner voice, and the only person who truly knew what was best for me: myself.
Living a “Why Not?” Life
I don’t typically regret things that I have done in my life, but I occasionally regret things that I didn’t do. This is why I coach my clients into leading a “why not?” instead of a “what if?” life.
Listening to your intuition, remembering there is no failure, only lessons learned (albeit often painful or expensive ones), doing what lights you up instead of following someone else’s path for you…all of these are insights that I learned from growing up in the shadows of a wonderfully talented creative family.
Eventually, I found that to truly be myself, I needed to quit the career path and industry that I’d pursued to make my mom proud, and take the leap to pursue my own creative vision. I found myself ignited with passion, pulling all nighters for projects because I could, and willing to do four times the work just because I loved it. Do you remember that kind of excitement?
Ultimately, my goal in sharing these stories is to take that leap of faith and transform your creativity into a business that informs and inspires, fuels and feeds, and serves and supports the WHOLE of your life, it does NOT swallow you whole.
