Are you a list maker like me?
Do you start your day with a full page of items to tackle only to find that you get through less than half, and you wind up rolling more than half of your list to the next day?
I used to do that until I found a way to chunk my day into easy to digest (and accomplish) bite-size pieces. This will revolutionize how much you get done and allow you more time for fun.
The secret is in the video, go watch it now!
The cool part is that you can actually color code using this same method (oooh, I thought you’d like that, after all you are a creative and focused on providing transformation.) Make this easy and color code your TO CONQUER cards and TO COMPLETE indexes by project, by job, by client, by organization. They are ready reference, totally portable, and will keep you focused and on point to completion and accomplishment.
Never again will you feel overwhelmed once you’ve mastered the art of mini-lists to chunk down the big tasks and tall orders into doable pieces that get done.
Yes, I do know about and have Evernote, I just find that using a pen and paper actually helps me capture and remember more than digits on a keyboard. When you find yourself scattered and feeling overwhelmed, maybe it’s time to let go of all the tech tools and return to a tried and true method of getting more done and having more fun.
As always, I love to hear from you, share your comments here about how you get and stay organized, the old fashioned way!
Hi Melissa,
Great video. I too use the same method as you and have found that since I have been using index cards I have increased my productivity!
Love the tips.

Yay Doreen,
So glad to hear that! Great minds think alike. I included in the post a couple of hyperlinks to additional posts, one from Zen Habits that gives 24 uses for index cards, more ways to be productive and creative!
Hugs, Melissa
Great tips! I am a list maker and tend to put a few items on a post it note the day before but I like the idea of the big list and then index cards! Have to try it! Thanks 🙂
Sue,
Delighted to hear that. Yes, I’ve done postits both real and virtual but don’t find them as effective as my index cards.

As ownef of small biz Im always overwhelmed even when I have it down on paper. But I think you’re right….the key being breaking it down into smaller daily steps. I’ve been doing that more and more but am going to try the index card method his week and will let u know. Even tho I keep lists I still have 20million tasks, ideas, strategies all floating arouns in my head at the same time. Maybe this method will help me corral them in. And yes, big believer that in the quiet space of our brains alot gets solved. Wish me luck!! Thx for tips!
Deborah,
I know that feeling well and have beat it with the index card method. Doing a daily brain dump also really helps get everything on paper so you can organize and prioritize ;).

Excuse typos…..my phone doesnt always type the letter I hit! 🙂
Melissa,
I love written to-dos also.
My system is a little different but I agree that breaking it down into actionable pieces is the way to go. Once I get started, it’s much easier to keep going.
Thanks!

Diana,
Less important the actual technique than that you use the method of bite-size pieces :).
Hugs, Melissa
Hi Melissa,
Great video to remind all those techies of how simple systems can have a great impact! I use index cards everyday to carry out my to do list. Like you, I’ve found it’s a great tool to break down a list that could easily become too long to be effective. Liked how you packaged the tip into the video!
Thanks Lynn,
Appreciate your kind words and glad to meet another index agenda expert!
Hugs, Melissa
