I stayed for just a couple of nights at the Ritz Carlton Marina Del Rey and had a lovely time. What a treat to have a divinely restful bed, a room dressed in shades of blue and gold, and a bath with all the right appointments. I am inspired to do more with mine at home! So I’m going to share the essentials of a truly inviting guest room!
* A comfortable bed with fluffy pillows
* White sheets with a minimum of 300 thread count
* A reading chair with good light
* A writing desk for computer use
* Stationary and postcards (yes you can have your home done on them or just get a pretty set to put out)
* An alarm clock that is easy to set
* A mini refrigerator for those midnight raids
* A TV with movie channels (adore watching movies in a luxurious hotel bed!)
* Luxurious towels and lots of them
* Shampoo, conditioner, face soap, bath soap, bath gel, lotion, q-tips, sewing kit (bring it back from your next adventure!)
* A closet with room for your guest’s belongings
* Padded or wood hangers, no wire dry cleaner remnants
Not all guest rooms have that much room, but most have enough for the essentials even if you have to skip the desk or chair, and you can always stash the refrigerator in the closet! The point is to make it more than the JUNK room or the catchall before it goes to Goodwill. And the real test is to see if you can spend a night there and enjoy it. Check back with me before the holidays, my guest room is due for an overhaul…
Travel well and beautifully,
MG
