Since I am active on Linked In, Facebook, Ecademy, Plaxo, Twitter, and more, I often send and receive invites to connect and to follow. I base my acceptance on the invites on two things, is it a personal invitation, or are they connected to other friends and colleagues. The systems here will let me know if they know friends and colleagues; the personal touch is rare and underutilized.
When I send invites, they are personal. I was surprised when on Facebook I got thank yous for something as simple as a personal invite. It isn’t long or complex but as simple as “Hey (their name) we are both connected to (someone’s name) and betting we can go farther together, let’s connect!” It is warm, friendly and genuine.
This is what the networks are for, they present a unique opportunity to make personal connections and reap the benefits. These are people you would ordinarily never have access to because of location, or interests, or career path, yet they are prospects and resources. Don’t miss a chance to welcome them with a smile in text and extend a memorable invitation. It is more than just clicking buttons.
