There are 5 key strategies for maximizing your social media benefits. This week I’ll detail THE CELEBRITY STRATEGY. In coming weeks, I’ll discuss the Trust Me Strategy, the You Know Me Strategy, the Community Strategy, and the Reputation Builder Strategy. Using the tools of social media and being active on the networks by itself is not enough. It is vital to craft a comprehensive strategy that then employs the tools in a specific manner, monitor and measure the results, track the progress, and reap real results.
THE CELEBRITY STRATEGY is the ideal strategy when you want to skyrocket your visibility and improve your outreach and influence. It requires a layering of your networks for ultimate effectiveness. This is about being visible in as many places as possible as often as possible. It is a presence based less on value content and more on stature, status and attention. Followers, friends and connections want the cachet that being a “celebrity” brings.
You can effectively craft a “fan club” of people because they want to be associated with you. Their interest is based on perception, not necessarily substance. (Substance is Fame based not simply Celebrity based.) The challenge with The Celebrity Strategy is that it can be short lived and temporary, without substance you can turn into a “has been.” On the other hand you can build it and then shift into a secondary strategy to benefit from the visibility created by this strategy.
The benefits to The Celebrity Strategy are that you can base it on something serious, on your association with an event or cause, or on something humorous and even whacky behavior. The key is to stand out, be different, and be memorable. This strategy is about grabbing attention in a massive way in your niche. You aren’t going to be as big a celebrity as Oprah, Ellen DeGeneres or Ashton Kutcher but in your niche you can be the celebrity.
The Celebrity is about having a story that is worth telling, that entertains and captivates makes the followers, friends, and connections laugh or cry and spread the word. And when you are a “celebrity” on social media that will translate to other opportunities and mediums offline as well as online.
